THE United States has approved the sale of more weapons to South Korea as the allies prepare for war with Kim Jong-un.
A Pentagon statement revealed the US State Department is selling 60 AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder Missiles and 89 AGM-65G-2 Maverick Missiles to South Korea for £110million.
The proposed sale comes as tensions continue to rise between the US and North Korea.
The Pentagon’s Defence Security Cooperation Agency said: “This proposed sale contributes to the foreign policy and national security of the United States.”
“[South Korea is] a key partner of the United States in ensuring peace and stability in the region.”
Data released by the South Korean government revealed the US has sold more than £25 billion worth of weapons to Kim Jong-un’s neighbour in the past 10 years.
Earlier this year Kim announced his military had reached the final stage of preparing an intercontinental ballistic missile which could reach the US.
Satellite images reveal the tyrannical regime has resumed operation of the reactor at its new nuclear site used to produce weapons-grade plutonium, the deadly ingredient needed for nuclear weapons.
The DSCA added: “It is vital to US national interests to assist our Korean ally in developing and maintaining a strong and ready self-defence capability.
“There will be no adverse impact on US defence readiness as a result of this proposed sale.”
South Korea have allied with US Navy SEALs to create a special forces “decapitation squad” to take out Kim Jong-un if he detonates his nukes.
New choppers equipped with torpedoes and guns capable of stopping Kim’s nukes are set to join South Korea’s front naval line.
President Trump has pledged to tackle Kim’s nuclear ambitions as a Pentagon spokesman decalred the US was prepared to shoot down any nuke launched from North Korea.
